Maca capsules from Tasnim
The famous Maca plant (Lepidium meyenii) is endemic to the Peruvian Andes and has been cultivated there at higher altitudes for around 2000 years. There are different types of Maca, which differ in their colors as well as other characteristics. The main maca varieties are yellow, black, purple to red. However, the powders of the different maca colors have only minimal color differences (in contrast to the exterior of the root tubers).
Maca in general is also called Peruvian ginseng and is one of the complete foods in the Andes. Rich in all essential amino acids, valuable unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins B1, B2, B3 and C, minerals and trace elements such as potassium, iron and magnesium, the plant used in Peruvian folk medicine is also a home remedy for all kinds of hormonal issues, such as e.g menstruation and menopause. The Incas also traditionally used the root to promote fertility, as an aphrodisiac and tonic for the army.
The growing region of Junín
The maca plant, from which our original maca extract is made, grows in its natural habitat at an altitude of 4,050 - 4,200m on a gently sloping hillside near the mountain town of San Pedro de Cajas (15,300 inhabitants) in the province of Tarma in the Peruvian region Junin. Due to the altitude, it is exposed to extreme climatic conditions: strong temperature fluctuations, strong winds and intense UV radiation.
The cultivation region is only a few kilometers away from the Juníns National Reserve and the mountain lake Junín, the second largest lake in Peru. Around Lake Junín there is a particularly rainy microclimate and a soil composition that differs from the rest of the Junín region, including a 10-fold higher magnesium content. The Junín region is the traditional and the only natural area in the world where the Maca plant is grown.
Gentle processing
At the end of May to the end of August, the maca plant is finally harvested by hand and largely sun-dried on large tarpaulins. The tuber root is then disinfected with ozonated water, mashed and extracted from sugar cane with water and edible ethanol.
Maca capsules from Tasnim are free of additives: free from separating agents such as magnesium stearate, free from gelatine, free from aromas, colorings, stabilizers, and of course: lactose-free, gluten-free, free from preservatives, free from genetically modified ingredients (GMO-free).
